| production method | Add 50g 2-picoline to ml of water, heat and stir, add 90g of potassium permanganate, after about 1H a second 90g portion of potassium permanganate was added. Additional 500ml of water was added and heating was continued for 2-2.5H until the purple color disappeared. Upon cooling, the manganese dioxide precipitate was filtered off and washed with hot water. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure and filtered. The concentrate was acidified to Congo Red acid with concentrated hydrochloric acid, evaporated to dryness, and digested with 95% ml of ethanol for 1H under reflux. After filtration, the filter cake was extracted with 95% ethanol, the ethanol filtrate and the extract were combined, and dried hydrogen chloride was introduced until crystals began to precipitate. It is cooled to 10 °c, passed through hydrogen chloride to distillation, and the picolinic acid hydrochloride is filtered off to give 43-44g after drying (hydrochloride melting point 210-212 °c). |
